Oase IELTS Placement Test

Are you ready for the Placement Test?
.
You don't need to worry about the result. There will be no passed or failed in this test. The result is totally for me as your mentor to know your strengths and which areas you need to improve. After all, mistakes are tools for learning, aren't they? We are here to learn.

As mentioned in this blog, there are four skills tested in IELTS, therefore there will be four skills I want you to practice:

  1. Receptive Skills: Listening and Reading
  2. Productive Skills: Speaking and Writing
Let's start The Placement Test.

Listening:

Listen to the audio located below the listening sheet.
Prepare yourself with a sheet of paper and pencil or pen to jot down the conversation what you hear.
Do what the instruction tells you to.
Listen to the whole audio at one go with some stops if necessary. If you still cannot answer the blanks, you can repeat the tape. As this is the placement test, limit the repeat for three times only.

Audio 1:

Audio 2:

Reading:
Try NOT to look up in the dictionary or grammar books.
Time yourself for 20 minutes to do this task. If you still need some more minutes, add another 5 minutes.

Speaking:

Record yourself, in a form of video, for 5 minutes or less.
The content is introducing yourself; talk about your home, family, studies, what you do in your spare time, and your hobbies/interests.
Practice before recording by writing what you are going to say to make sure it is a sufficient 5-minute video, not more than that.
When you speak, you MUST NOT read what you have written to practice.
Speak slowly, clearly, and confidently maintaining your eye contact with the camera.
I am going to pay attention to your pronunciation, intonation, and overall postures.
Upload your video to your YouTube channel if any, or simply send your video to me.

Writing:
Try NOT to look up in the dictionary or grammar books.
Time yourself for 25 minutes to do this task. If you still need some more minutes, add another 5 minutes.
